Has your child ever loved a blanket or toy so much so that you’ve sewn patch after patch onto it to avoid the tears of it being taken away for good? Well, the same thing can happen with soft play structures that aren’t quite up to standard. Kids love them regardless. They run around, squeeze through them and bash them up a bit more as they go. But, there comes a time when you have to make a decision. Should you sew on another patch or should you go out and get something new and potentially better? Ilfracombe Holiday Park found themselves in that very situation.

The client

Set in the heart of North Devon, the Ilfracombe Holiday Park is a haven for families looking for a full, fun and affordable holiday. Run by the Green Park Holidays group, it’s home to a crazy golf course, heated pools and a central clubhouse. With loads of activities and entertainment for the family to enjoy, it’s no wonder that this place gets fully booked out every summer.

The challenge

The Ilfracombe team asked us to complete an annual inspection on their old soft play structure and to make any necessary improvements. They were also looking to update their soft play offering. It needed to stretch over three levels, inside the park clubhouse. It also needed to live up to the high expectations that visiting families come with. As well as including something for babies to enjoy too.

What we did

First of all, we did the inspection. The old frame was so tired that it would need a lot of money spent on it to get it back up to standard. As it was holiday season, the park couldn’t afford to lose their soft play frame for any significant length of time. So we did some emergency repairs to the structure, to see it through the summer. And, at the same time, we created a bespoke design for a new frame. It got the thumbs up straight away, so we installed the new area during the following winter. Set over three levels, with a sensory area for babies to enjoy, the new structure goes beyond what was there before. We made the most of every square inch and created an unforgettable play area.

The result

The client was delighted. The new structure has really lifted the area and gives parents the chance to relax at the bar while their kids get involved in healthy, positive play. The staff were grateful for the emergency work we completed on the old frame too. The soft play area continues to be a popular attraction throughout the summer.
